One deep thought

I realize one of the biggest gains during my stay in HK is the opportunity to get to know all my cousins. Really, Hong Kong isn't a place as good as I used to imagine. I thought I was born and raised in this place and it shouldn't be a thing to worry as I'm basically just returning home. However, the people, the culture, the environment, the working situation ... all fall out of my expectation. You may call it a culture shock, I call it an outrageous experience or should it simply be C'est la Vie.

Probably I was too young to understand the importance of family reunion before, yet last Sunday dinner had changed the way I was. l had gone through some deep thoughts and realized that
these reunions just become more difficult to coordinate when all of us have grown up and led our own lives. I can hardly recall when was our last time to have the whole family together ... (*wink*) ... OMG, it was exactly 10 years ago when everyone decided to return for my grandma's funeral. Boy, I surely do not want to see a reunion happens only when someone's passing. Nevertheless, I have already spent almost half of my life time in the States and I may have just neglected some of the people whom have been (and still are) very close to me since young. For my younger cousins (ZC, EA, SA), I'm so glad to know you guys so much better and be able to carry some quality conversations this time. Love you always.

Too bad my little brother won't be able to make it back for CNY this year ... we miss you and we will see each other pretty soon. Love you too.

As we grow older and wiser we are able to understand what makes us the person we have become. What might have been a culture shock to you is really a better way of you understanding your renewed family's culture. The states has influenced you more than you might have thought.

It's great that you have rekindled familiy ties with cousins and other relitives. This makes your stay in HK so much more valuable than inhancing your career.

Please find time to e-mail your friends in the states.

Hey you know I just had a similar experience. I got to see most of my family members a couple weeks ago in HK due to my grandma's funeral.

Chinese people should have family reunions, eh?
